Bedfordshire Police Federation Chairman Jim Mallen has congratulated former Deputy Chief Constable Jon Boutcher following his appointment as the Force’s new Chief Constable.

Mr Boutcher came to Bedfordshire last year as DCC and had been Temporary Chief Constable since the retirement of Colette Paul.

“We would like to extend our congratulations to the new Chief,” says Jim, “We have already developed a good working relationship with him over the last year and we look forward to this continuing in the future.

“I think his appointment will enable us to have some continuity in our command team at what is a very challenging time not just for Bedfordshire Police but the whole service.

“We are aware more cuts are on the horizon to it is good to know that we have a new Chief Constable with a good understanding of the difficulties we are facing.”

Mr Boutcher has 31 years’ police service, the majority of which has been spent as a detective. He served as a detective in Kennington, South London, before moving to Brixton as a detective sergeant.

Jon is now the National Police Chiefs’ Council lead for undercover policing.
