Do you want to help develop the National Investigators’ Examination? Take our survey now!

Why we need your help?

The Selection & Assessment team at the College of Policing are conducting research into the current syllabus for the National Investigators’ Examination (NIE) to ensure it is supporting forces in identifying individuals ready to undertake the Initial Crime Investigators Development Programme (ICIDP).

This research will inform the structure and content of the NIE to ensure it is a fair and valid measure. By taking part in this research you will help to ensure that the examinations truly reflect the knowledge of law and procedure that is required to effectively perform the role of a trainee investigator.

Who can help?

We are asking for the help of those who have knowledge of the law and procedure relevant to the role of a trainee investigator. Those in the appropriate roles for completing the questionnaire may include (but are not limited to):

  • Crime Trainers
  • ICIDP Tutor Constables
  • Trainee Investigators who have been successful in the NIE and are undergoing ICIDP training or workplace assessment
  • Operational Detective Police Officers who have been successful in the NIE

How to help?

NIE Blueprint Survey

We have produced a survey to help us understand the role of trainee investigator within the police service of England and Wales. We are particularly interested in how often areas of law and procedure are used in the role of trainee investigator; as well as how important it is that a trainee investigator can apply them effectively. This will provide important information on the specific areas of law and procedure that a trainee investigator must understand and be able to apply to perform the role effectively.

If you have around 20 minutes to spare to complete the survey please click this link: http://surveys.college.police.uk/TakeSurvey.aspx?SurveyID=84K276m5

The survey is open until: Thursday 8 June

Further details about the research and how to complete the survey are provided as part of the survey.

NIE Blueprint Focus Groups

To allow us to explore your responses in more detail we will conduct focus groups to improve our understanding of the role of trainee investigator within the police service of England and Wales. We will form a group of subject matter experts and discuss our findings from the survey so that we can ensure the blueprint reflects the police service’s view of the criticality of areas of law and procedure relevant to the role of trainee investigator.

If you would like to take part in this stage then please provide your name, role, force and contact details in an email to us at ExamsInvestigator@college.pnn.police.uk.

A date has not yet been set for this event, however we will contact those who express an interest to seek their availability.

If you have any queries regarding this research please do not hesitate to get in touch with us at ExamsInvestigator@college.pnn.police.uk
