Wednesday’s conference begins with an examination of the mental health of officers.

Entitled ‘How blue is the thin blue line?’, the session will include inputs from Faye McGuiness, programme manager at the Blue Light Programme of MIND, Stuart Haythorn of the Welfare Support Programme and Che Donald, the Federation’s national lead on officer welfare and mental health.

Sir Thomas Winsor (HMCIC) will also give an update on HMIC PEEL inspections before the morning break and attention is then turned to the future of women in policing.

Other sessions will consider police pursuits and assaults on the police during which John Apter, chairman of Hampshire Police Federation, will give an update following his well received presentation to last year’s conference.
