Home Secretary Theresa May will take centre stage at today’s national Police Federation conference in Bournemouth.

Mrs May is scheduled to make her keynote speech to delegates, including Federation representatives from Bedfordshire, during the late morning conference session.

Chairman Steve White will first make his address to members and after the Home Secretary’s response there will be a Q and A session.

“This is always the highlight of conference,” says Jim Mallen, chairman of Bedfordshire Police Federation, “I am sure this year will be no different. It will be interesting to hear what the Home Secretary has to say.”

Later in the day, shadow Home Secretary Andy Burnham will address officers, just days after calling for more reform of conduct regulations.

Other sessions during the opening day include:

  • Devolving policing in England
  • Unconscious bias
  • Vision 2020, and
  • Operation Dragoon.

The day concludes with a National Detectives’ Forum meeting.
