Train Concessions

Part of the agreement is that all examples of assistance provided when using the concession should be emailed to Emma Carter 998 to enable them to be collated as evidence for the next review

Please note that, as before, these arrangements apply to police officers only and not to their family and friends, who must hold valid tickets to cover their journey

The routes on which free travel applies are

  • Bedford to London Thameslink stations (St Pancras International / Farringdon / City
  • Thameslink/ London Blackfriars/London Bridge) – Thameslink trains only
  • Peterborough to London King’s Cross/St Pancras International and all stations to London Bridge – Great Northern and Thameslink trains only
  • Kings Lynn – Cambridge to London King’s Cross/St Pancras International and all stations to London Bridge – Great Northern and Thameslink trains only
  • West Midlands Trains – The Police Officer’s valid Warrant Card is evidence of entitlement to free travel.  Police officers are not required to purchase a ticket for travel wholly within the designated concession area.  On the West Midlands Network this refers to travel between London Euston and Northampton only.

Police Officers are requested to produce their Warrant Card as authority to travel

Special Constables can only travel free of charge on Thameslink or Great Northern services when travelling to or from prearranged police duty

Free Bus Travel

Bedfordshire Police Federation has brokered an agreement with ‘Stagecoach’ for free bus travel for serving Police Officers, Special Constables and PCSOs (PCSOs must be in uniform). Police Officers only need to produce their warrant card to the bus driver as we recognised the need for officers in plain clothes to benefit from this agreement. It covers those officers who need to cross the County borders to travel back and forth.

Nationally it has been a difficult time for Police Officers with the various issues of pay & conditions overarched with the pension changes. Locally, moving towards the implementation of the Operational Policing Review we recognised that parking issues were going to be problematic as well as the financial struggle for some of our colleagues. It is for these reasons that we entered into negotiations with ‘Stagecoach’ to achieve this benefit for our members. Please do not abuse the agreement as it will be removed for all.

This agreement has been ratified by PSD and ACPO. Discussions are on-going with the Train companies.

The only stipulation is that Officers intervene if any bus driver encounters problems.

Police Officers can use buses on or off duty. Special Constables and PCSOs must be on duty.

The concession only applies to officers AFTER they have completed their 16 week training.
