Police Friendly: helping the entire Police family plan for the future

After 132 years of proudly standing with the policing community, Metfriendly is excited to introduce Police Friendly – a powerful new chapter in our mission to bring trusted, straightforward financial support to the whole UK Police family.

From serving Officers to Police Staff, a Special, retired, or part of the extended police
family, Police Friendly is built for you.

Whether you’re saving for the future, protecting your family, or looking for trustworthy
financial guidance, Police Friendly is here to make that simple and stress-free.

Why Police Friendly?

Annette Petchey, CEO says: “We’ve always been there for London’s Officers,
now we’re here for all of UK policing.

“Our new identity makes one thing clear: wherever you serve, Police Friendly is here
to support you.

While Metfriendly continues to serve London forces and our current Members,
Police Friendly opens the door for officers and their families across the nation to
access the same trusted support.”

Why Police Friendly?

  • We are a not-for-profit organisation, operated for the benefit of the Members and the wider police family
  • Driven by your needs, and committed to providing a service with the police family in mind.
  • Built to serve the wider police family across the UK – and that includes extended family.

Annette added: “We recognise that policing isn’t like other jobs – it comes with
pressures most people don’t see.

“That’s why Police Friendly offers more than just financial products – we provide
peace of mind.”

Our police-centred services include:

  • Flexible savings and investment options.
  • Life protection plans built around policing risks.
  • Expert-led financial education and webinars.
  • Compassionate, knowledgeable member support.
  • Ongoing investment in wellbeing and community initiatives.

Our services are open to current and former Officers, Staff, Specials and their
extended families.

Annette ended: “Police Friendly is an exciting step forward for us. We have built this
new brand with you, and for you – both current and future members played a key role
in shaping it.

“Police Friendly reflects who we are today and where we’re going tomorrow.”

If you are a current Metfriendly member, there is no need to change how you contact
us – everything remains the same.

Take Control after Christmas

Now the fun and festivities of Christmas are behind us, it’s time to set ourselves up for the upcoming year financially.

Many people turn to credit in order to get through the festive season, and if you’re one of them – there are things you can do to get yourself back on track as soon as possible;

Get out the calculator and work out exactly what you owe

Shying away from the issues won’t help!

What do you have spare each month?

Whatever it is, dedicate as much as you can to paying off those credit card bills.

Be realistic in what you plan to pay every month

Missing your target can be demoralising and you may not feel like you’re getting anywhere.

Keep away from the cards and don’t be tempted to use them

Even the odd purchase here and there can set you back more than you’d think.

Give yourself the peace of mind that getting your credit card bills paid does for you

You can’t put a price on knowing you’re up to date (or getting there) paying what you owe!

Important Update – February 2024

The first base rate meeting of 2024, interest rates are staying at 5.25%.

We are now seeing mortgage lenders move their interest rates independent of changes to the Bank Of England base rate

Much of this is down to the lender’s cost of borrowing and where they see interest rates longer term.

The learning point here is that if you are looking at fixed rate borrowing then don’t assume it is all about what the Bank of England do, rates are moving all the time.

If you are 6 months or less away from your Fixed rate expiring or you are looking to buy your new home or home improvements then please contact us on the below details to speak to a Mortgage Advisor today.
