Federation elects new vice chairman

A sergeant has been elected as the new vice chairman of the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW).
Following a vote at an Interim National Board meeting at Federation headquarters in Leatherhead on 13 April, Calum Macleod, a sergeant from South Wales, was elected.
Officers suffering psychological stress

New statistics show the number of police officers on long-term sick leave for psychological reasons has increased by more than a third in the past five years.
Figures obtained by BBC Radio 5 Live under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act show that, despite the police workforce shrinking, the number of staff and officers taking long-term leave has increased from 4,544 in 2010 to 6,129 in 2015.
The Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) has said it is not surprising the number has increased given the ever-increasing stresses officers face.
